AUDIENCE RECORDING

In A Winning Streak! - From „booth tapes“ Vol. 4
Coming out soon on Straight Arrow is the 3CD set “On A Winning Streak”, featuring three strong shows as recorded on February 17 (DS + MS) and 18 (DS), 1973… which means that all of it was recorded within a day. This release documents what a strain it was on Elvis’ creativity and general well-being to be performing under such a tight schedule for a whole month, but it also shows how well he actually coped under the circumstances. All three shows are tight, lively and entertaining, and you can really hear that the whole room was buzzing with excitement at his shows. All three shows are well-paced, featuring a solid selection of concert favorites as well as songs from the recent ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ television special. Elvis is clearly enjoying the interaction with his fans, and there is plenty of that here. Interestingly, he momentarily loses his patience with one loud fan, though he later says that he was “just kidding”.

A fascinating release, featuring all three shows in surprisingly good audience recorded sound: in fact, these recordings are amongst the finest audience recorded shows out there. Everything can be heard clearly, including all of Elvis’ comments, and the well-balanced and crisp live sound on these recording will make you feel like you are right there in the showroom enjoying the King in person. These tapes were recently rediscovered, we believe that you will agree with us that this is a great find and a real must, and not just for the hardcore collector. Another quality Straight Arrow release!
