THE MONO MASTERS 1969-1975

ELVIS PRESLEY THE MONO MASTERS (BOOK IN BOX + 5 CD’S)
LP SIZED HARDCOVER BOOK – 480 PAGES, 5 CD’S BONUS PICTURE WITH 2016 CALENDAR ON BACK

Elvis Presley in MONO  is how most listeners first heard Elvis in the 1950s and 1960s, when it was the predominant audio format. Until 1968, each Elvis album was given a unique MONO and STEREO mix, but Elvis always regarded the MONO mix as primary. This was also true for singles. Up until affordable home STEREO systems in the late 1960s, the record industry always regarded STEREO as secondary, going back to its debut in the late 1950s. MONO singles, EPs and LPs were the standard for retail and radio. Simply put, MONO had all of the sound mixed in a single channel and was meant to be listened to on a turntable with a built-in speaker, a car radio, or a stand-alone AM radio receiver. The goal was to create MONO master takes with as much clarity and power as possible.

When EMI released MONO masters of the Beatles in 2009, they received rave reviews. Left out in the cold were Elvis’ loyal fans. Somehow, SONY didn’t see a reason why they might want the pleasure of listening to his original MONO mixes. So when we first heard about the existence of the original MONO master tapes of Elvis’ hit singles, it was an easy decision to make these available to the fans in a five-disc collection. Elvis' acclaimed MONO tracks have been newly-mastered for CD, using the best digital technology. Hours were dedicated to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing these master tapes with mint, MONO first pressings. The result is a perfect reproduction of Elvis' original MONO vinyl sound!

INTERNATIONAL HOTEL, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, USA, 07-08-1969 DINNER SHOW
Audience recording

Coming soon from the new label "Universum Productions" in the Elvis world is the almost complete Dinner Show from August 7,1969. This performance was recorded from the audience at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It has a familiar sound like other already released audience recorded tapes of that period. We would classify it "average"....ask for a sample and we´re sure you weren´t disappointed. The show itself of course is really great.

ELVIS REACHES AUSTIN CITY LIMITS

(1-CD DIGIPACK E.P.COLLECTOR)
MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM, AUSTIN, TEXAS, USA, 28-03-1977
Audience recording

Expected soon is our new CD titled ”ELVIS REACHES AUSTIN CITY LIMITS” (label E.P. Collector, catalogue number EPC 2016-05), recorded live from the audience in Austin, TX, March 28th, 1977. The 2nd tour of 1977 was cut short due to illness, but some of the concerts were surprisingly good, especially the Abilene show on March 27th. In Austin, Elvis performs another solid and entertaining show. Note: David Briggs was replaced by Bobby Ogdin on electric piano and clavinet. Among the concert highlights are ”You Gave Me A Mountain“, ”Little Sister”, ”Help Me”, “Fever“ and ”Hurt”. Special moment: it was the very last time that Elvis performed “Steamroller Blues” – a really cool performance! The March 28th, 1977 Austin, TX show was previously released 14 years ago by the “Crown” label (a poor sounding CD called “Elvis Slips Into Austin”). Fortunately, the E.P. Collector producers were able to locate the very good sounding original audience recorded master cassette, taped with a recorder equipped with two microphones. The result is a rich and ambient sound - ask for samples! The CD is packaged in a nicely designed digipak filled with a positive concert review from the local press and a collection of cool images taken on March 28, 1977 in Austin, TX.

Tracklist:

01. Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001 Theme) - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. medley: I Got A Woman / Amen - 04. Love Me - 05. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) - 06. You Gave Me A Mountain - 07. Steamroller Blues (performed for last time) - 13. Help Me - 14. Fever - 15. Band Introductions - 16. Early Mornin' Rain - 17. What'd I Say - 18. Johnny B. Goode - 19. Drum Solo (Ronnie Tutt) - 20. LIVE AT DEL WEBB'S

(1-CD TOUCHDOWN)
SAHARA HOTEL, LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA, USA, 25-05-1974 MIDNIGHT SHOW
Audience recording

"The new Touchdown release will be a good sounding audience recording from the midnight show on May 25, 1974 in Lake Tahoe. Also the recording isn’t fully complete, we thought as it is such a fine concert that it deserves a release. For your information we like to add, that the introductions of the musicians, the singers and the orchestra are missing. Also omitted from the recording is “Funny How Time Slips Away”. A different source includes the song, but the soundquality was really bad. So for a better listening experience we decided to not include it. “Big Boss Man” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” are from the same source as the main part of the show, but both are probably from a lower-generation tape. They were first used for the old bootleg "Big Boss Man In Lake Tahoe" to complete the recording of the Dinner Show on May 24, 1974. Nonetheless the soundquality is nearly the same. Added to the midnight show from May 25, 1974 are three bonus songs from the dinner show on May 24, 1974: “Help Me”, “An American Trilogy” and “I’ll Remember You” (first released on the CD “Big Boss Man At Lake Tahoe”).

Tracklisting

[01] See See Rider [2:53] - [02] I Got A Woman/Amen [5:36] - [03] Elvis Welcomes The Audience [0:32] - [04] Love Me [1:33] - [05] Trying To Get To You [2:34] - [06] All Shook Up [1:07] - [07] Love Me Tender [1:47] - [08] Havin‘ Fun On Stage [0:29] - [09] Surrender (one line)/ You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me [2:02] - [10] Johnny B Goode [1:53] - [11] Hound Dog [1:22] - [12] Fever [3:12] - [13] Polk Salad Annie [4:04] - [14] Why Me Lord [2:53] - [15] You Gave Me A Mountain [3:25] - [16] Suspicious Minds [3:43] - [17] I Can’t Stop Loving You [2:21] - [18] I’m Leavin’ [3:31] - [19] Bridge Over Troubled Water [4:30] - [20] Let Me Be There [2:52] - [21] The Wonder Of You [2:04] - [22] Big Boss Man [2:33] - [23] Can’t Help Falling In Love [2:06] - [24] Help Me [2:39] - [25] An American Trilogy [3:54] - [26] I’ll Remember You [2:25]

Tracks 1-23 recorded on May 25, 1974 (MS)

Tracks 24-26 recorded on May 24, 1974 (DS)

Note:
Unfortunately this is again an audience recording. Although the Touchdown releases are fine to listen too, I think we can honestly say: "do we need this?". I mean, during the years we already had a good sounding soundboard release from Fort Baxter "And The King For Dessert" and a few years later the same show was re-released as Elvis At Lake Tahoe Nevada by the Elvis Concert Fan label.
