STILL CLASSY IN OMAHA

A release by Verve which shows how good soundboards can sound, if done properly. When FTD released many years ago the April 22, 1976 in Omaha (FTD CD America) almost everyone was disappointed about the mix, which had the background singers way, way up in front. It sounded terrible and it’s until today one of the worst releases by the collector’s label.

It was always said that you can’t do anything about the soundpicture, as the soundboard is what it is, but that’s wrong. It is possible to correct the soundpicture, which we did and now you can listen to a concert and find out why the press stated about Presley’s concert on the next day: „Still classy as a caddy!“ The background singers are mixed properly in the background and Elvis’ talent and charisma shines over it all. And a fine concert it was!

WITH RENEWED VIGOUR

It was the1st tour of 1976 and some of Elvis' key musicians were replaced for financial issues. Unexpectedly, the result was a surprisingly fresh sound, with keyboards and drums prominent. During this rather short tour, Elvis performed 8 solid and entertaining shows in 4 cities.
The Charlotte, March 20th, 1976, 2:30pm show was previouslyreleased from an incomplete and inferior source by "J. R. Productions" label in 1994 ("Steamrollin' Charlotte" CD). The sound was hissy, distant and badly muffled on few opening tracks. We have found a completely new source; the original tape was recorded by a well-known American fan, using back then an excellent quality Sony TC-55 cassette recorder. For the first time we present this great concert in complete form and in its best possible sound quality! As usual, this release is presented in a de-lux 6-panel digipak with a collection of photos taken in Charlotte, March 20th, 1976 2:30pm and with great liner notes written by the fan who taped the show!
If you have enjoyed our previous March'76 release "RIPPIN' IT IN CINCINNATI" (Straight Arrow Special Products SA/SP 2018-51-02), we bet you will love this one too. The sound is even better, fresher and ambient. Ask your local dealer for audio samples! Straight Arrow team is always looking for new, unreleased audience taped shows and for better versions of already released recordings. If you have such tapes, even damaged/broken ones, do not hesitate to contact us, through your local dealer.

TIME IS SLIPPING AWAY

Recorded live at the University of Oklahoma Lloyd Noble Center, Norman, OK, March 25, 1977 Our first new release in 2020 is titled "TIME IS SLIPPING AWAY" (E.P. Collector / EPC 2020-24) and it brings us the Norman, OK, March 25, 1977 show.
The title is inspired by the fact that Elvis he sings "Funny How Time Slips Away" very unusually as the 3rd song. The 2nd tour of 1977 was cut short due to Elvis illness, but some of the concerts were surprisingly good, especially the Abilene show on March 27th. In Norman, Elvis performs two solid and entertaining shows. Among the concert highlights are ”You Gave Me A Mountain“, ”Little Sister”, ”My Way”, “Fever“ and ”Hurt”.
As the local press wrote, Elvis "The King" Presley delights audience in Lloyd Noble Arena. Note: After the February 1977 tour, David Briggs was replaced by Bobby Ogdin on electric piano and clavinet.
The audio was mastered from an original audience recorded cassette tape recorded by a British fan. The sound is a rich and ambient - ask for samples! This CD is packaged in a nicely designed digipack with local press review. All images used for the artwork were taken on March 25th, 1977 and they are previously unpublished!
